Cutting the face

Oil on canvas. 120x40cm, 2025. Custom made Redgum frame made by Melbourne Woodworker Leon Stals

This painting was part of ‘Seeing/Remembering/Painting’, a group exhibition at Gallery One, Mitcham, SA, in 2025.

Carefully he holds his foot over the water’s edge

His body feels weightless

And his mind is present

Keeping him still as the wave passes beneath him

The pale ocean mirrors the bleached sky

And such that even the birds must take notice,

The man calmly carves a line in the landscape.
