Berry Sunset

Oil on canvas, 50x70cm, 2025

This painting was part of ‘Seeing/Remembering/Painting’, a group exhibition at Gallery One, Mitcham, SA, in 2025. Sold.

 I saw this once,

A bright sunset sky

Awash with warm colours

I had seawater in my eyes

And peeling skin

I kept a constant squint focused on the setting sun.

Suddenly, the sky extended its hand and pointed to the horizon

Right where the sun had just slipped away,

A dolphin leaped out of the water.

Gracious in expertise

And always on time

It drew a perfect circle with its tail

And dipped back into the ocean

It’s figure stayed in my eyes, burning itself on my vision

The dolphin’s fleeting presence left a silence in the sky

And I swear his mate had stuck his head out to watch!
